Nothing Much Yet
We are supposedly in the midst of Storm Goretti, which is wreaking havoc elsewhere in England but doesn't seem to be doing much here. We're getting some wind, and I was worried about the avocado's big fabric "bubble" and whether it would be shredded, but in its protected location on the patio it's only slightly rocking. Later this morning snow is possible but I'm not seeing any yet.
The artwork above is on the window of an estate agent's office on the high street, in this building:
I noticed before Christmas that they hadn't yet put out their annual winter lights, but now they're up, so I guess they finally got around to it. Better late than never, right?

In readiness for next Xmas. I read once that a man had Xmas dinner every day from one Xmas to the next. He is probably no longer around though!
ReplyDeleteWell, winter is going to be around for a while yet, I guess, so putting up winter lights now is probably still worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteWell, I suppose that winter lights are better than Christmas lights as they can stay up until March!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I read about LED lights that you put up and they stay up. You can program the light colors. All colors for Christmas, red white and blue for patriotic holidays red and white for valentine day, purple and orange for Halloween, green for st Patrick's day, etc. Even leave them off. Because they are those little tunes, you don't notice them. I think that is clever.
ReplyDelete*tubes
DeleteI guess if you call them winter lights, they’ve still got plenty of time. Beautiful window art. I love the process of painting on glass. I’ve watched it, never done it. The storm looks awful. I hope you stay out of range.
ReplyDeleteThose lights are probably not late Steve. They may be very early - ready for Xmas 2026 which draws closer with every passing day. Five inches of snow here. It started falling at 6pm yesterday evening .
ReplyDeleteI say lights year round! I do love the art on that.
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming at it's finest. We just spent all day yesterday getting dumped on with rain, something that never happens in January. Had it been colder, we would have likely had one of those lake effect snow events you read about that involve many feet of snow. I'm not sure where we will end up if our government doesn't wake up and acknowledge what it happening but it is bound to be wild.
ReplyDeleteI like the estate agent's artwork. She looks like a Baboushka.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the storm will not be severe.
ReplyDeleteWe are having 40 degree F weather after many days of below freezing temps.
Crazy weather!
I have been reading where England has gotten a lot of winter weather over the last week. I haven't been blogging since before Christmas so I am catching up! Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteNothing's going to stop your avocado tree from surviving even the storms of winter!
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to get cooler and even cold temperatures starting Sunday but supposedly no freezing. We shall see.
Maybe they're getting a jump on NEXT Christmas???
ReplyDeleteGot up to snow and 33° F in S. Colorado this morning!
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, we're having record highs. Though a front is supposed to come in tonight and cool it down.
ReplyDeleteWe're suddenly in the 50s f, but that's not unusual in NJ -- we often have a faux spring then winter's back.
ReplyDeleteThink Snow !!!
ReplyDeleteIcicle lights are great for winter and not just Xmas. So perhaps they're not late? We're back into the 40s and 50s around here. Such a WEIRD winter so far.
ReplyDeletemay as well keep them up year round. Time has accelerated!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of lights in the winter. Somehow they make the season less depressing. Good luck in the storm. We just had about four inches of snow but the temperature is set to rise to 8C (46F) tomorrow, so it will likely melt off. It makes me happy that you feed the birds and other critters. In unusual weather, it's harder for them to find food.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice piece or artistry on that window.
ReplyDeleteMy morning walk was in a t-shirt this morning. I think it's supposed to be colder tomorrow. Weird weather. I hope you, Dave, and the avocado stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI like the estate agent's artwork.
ReplyDeleteSome areas of the UK were quite badly affected by Storm Goretti, and next week it's turning wet!
Enjoy your weekend.
All the best Jan
