The Sting
Well, I spoke to soon about sleeping well. Jet lag kept me awake last night until about midnight. I was tired -- in fact I kept nodding off while we watched "Mindhunter" before bed -- but when I finally got between the sheets my body said, "It's only 5 p.m.!"
I was walking Olga yesterday morning when suddenly her eyes opened wide and she leaped about a foot vertically into the air. She reached back and began gnawing at her belly. I saw a bee clinging to her skin! Poor thing must have been stung, but I don't see a mark and fortunately she didn't have any reaction. I think a bee sting is a first for her.
That's her lying next to me as I write this. As you can see, she's not too concerned.
Possibly related to walking, I also got a strange case of shinsplints yesterday. My legs were sore. I had trouble moving around at work. I have no idea what set that off -- surely I wasn't that inactive while I was in Florida -- but hopefully they'll be more or less OK today.
I mentioned that I brought some old photographic slides back to London from my mom's place. They're stored in metal boxes, which were a pain to carry on the plane, but now they're here, thank goodness -- and yesterday I took 16 of them to be scanned. It cost £39, which I found a bit pricey -- I was going to get them all scanned but I think it might be prohibitively expensive. They're random family photos from 1960-1973 or so. If they turn out well, I'll have some old pictures to show you!

Lucky you getting to sleep by 12 ! I had one of those nights that felt like no sleep at all......I was def. still awake at 2 !!
ReplyDeletePoor Olga, glad she was OK.
There's no need to put a shinsplints story out! The Vietnam War ended long ago. There's no way the US Army will seek to conscript you.
ReplyDeletePoor old Olga, good job she didn't react. Looking forward to the pics.

Olga could not look more concerned AT ALL!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you're just having growing pains.
I'm looking forward to the old photos.
ReplyDeleteI've learned from experience that our doggies hide their pain very well. They don't often let on that they are hurting. I'm so glad that Olga hasn't had an allergic reaction to the bee sting. Poor Baby, I hope you gave her some extra hugging. I hope you are feeling better soon too. It takes a while to get back to normal after a long trip. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.
ReplyDeleteI used to get terrible leg cramps and shin splints at night before I started working out in the gym, which I don't do anymore, and doing yoga regularly. I think it probably had to do with standing on the concrete floor in my shop all day. Poor Olga. at least the pain from bee stings don't last very long.
ReplyDeletePoor Olga! I hope you get back to London time soon. Look forward to any photos. My Uncle is doing the same and I never know what to expect from his scans.
ReplyDeletePyramids are supposed to concentrate energy in one spot so I wonder if the people who use that pavilion can feel the energy all around them. Poor Olga. Years ago, my dad's dog got a sting or some kind insect bite on it's face and it puffed up one whole side of his face, squeezing his eye shut. We took him to an emergency vet and they gave him a Benadryl shot and swelling went down. That was kind of scary but, the vet said it was just an allergic reaction.
ReplyDeleteI hope your sleep cycle gets back to normal soon.
I'm glad Olga didn't have any swelling from her sting. I've been stung a few times, mostly as a child, but once in a car as an adult when a bee got sucked in through the open window and down behind my back. It was extremely painful and lasted for over an hour, much worse than any of the stings I got as a kid. I'm thinking the bee emptied its poison reserve completely when it got trapped! Perhaps Olga didn't get too much toxin in her. She looks pretty chill in that picture.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a better sleep tonight. A good sleep makes for a much better next day.
Good photo of Olga. Sorry about her encounter with a bee.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but I never think about dogs being stung by bees. Really a bummer that Olga did get stung. Hope you get a good night's sleep and feel totally rested by morning.
ReplyDeleteGlad Olga's ok.
