Peonies

Two of our peonies are blooming -- the yellow intersectional peony, above, which has two blossoms this year...

...and the "Bowl of Beauty" peony, an herbaceous variety that dies back every autumn. We still have another peony that's in bud but the flower hasn't opened yet.

Not much else going on around here, so today, just enjoy the flowers!

  1. I have a big bunch of peonies in a vase on my dining room table, and I am in love with them. Yours are so beautiful, too.

  2. Peonies? I thought you had mis-spelt the medical name for a certain male appendage.

  3. I love peonies, wonderful scent. The yellow one is new to me, only seen them in pinks and reds.

  4. I'd like to see your full bush. In the 1980s I remember seeing pots with huge peonies and they looked lovely.

  5. Peonies! I love that Bowl of Beauty one! Ours are finally done for the year - all the rain we've had hastened the process.

  12. Beautiful! Peonies are one of those flowers for which I can never "put a face to the name". I've never tried growing any.

  13. I can't help but think of my mom when I see peonies. When I was little she grew several of them lining the walk to our house.

  15. Nice! Yours are ahead of ours by several weeks. I have three plants from my great-grandmother's garden. They are a deep dark pink and never last long enough. I should get some pictures this year.

  16. Peonies are so lush. I really like the yellow one. We can't grow them, it gets too hot here.

  17. Thanks, everybody! Glad you enjoyed them! YP and Andrew, you guys are out of control. :) Yes, they are very lush, Ellen -- we never had them in Florida either.

  18. I like them, but have never seen any around Adelaide, maybe we are too dry here for them.
