Yellow Braces
These older buildings on Queen's Terrace in St. John's Wood, where a huge demolition and reconstruction project is going on, have been recently braced by massive yellow girders. I've never seen anything quite like this. It's almost sculptural.
I wrote about this street last December, after noticing that the former barracks next to these terraced houses had been torn down. It's the same street where the TV series "Pistol," about the Sex Pistols, was filmed.
Very dramatic-looking, isn't it?
I don't have much news otherwise. The dog got me up at 6 a.m. this morning, because God forbid I should be allowed to sleep in on a weekend. She has her routines and she makes us all stick to them!
At first glance, I thought it was part of a new permanent design. I’ve never seen anything like it either. Oddly, the cats let San Geraldo sleep until 7:30 this morning.
ReplyDeleteI got up at 9.05am today. Of course, we do not have a dog.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the yellow bracing is being used to preserve the building's facade as new construction happens behind it?
Maybe the yellow parts are the new building going up. Let's see if they install windows.
ReplyDeleteWhen our cats applied for the job to be our house mates, they had to sign a contract preventing them from bothering us until we wake up. So far, they've been pretty good about following the rules.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow girders remind me of some sort of giant Lego toy.
It's going to be interesting to see just what happens with this building and those girders!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone has a great weekend!
I too have never seen anything like that and don't really understand their purpose. Perhaps you can get a picture later on in the construction that can shed light on the matter.
ReplyDeleteI have no animals waking me up and I still woke up at 5. But I suspect that has more to do with me going to bed a lot earlier than you do.
I'd really hate to have those god awful orange braces outside my windows.
ReplyDeleteI was kind of liking the architecture until I learned it wasn't architecture!
ReplyDeleteIt is dramatic. Maybe just fancy scaffolding? We shall see...
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like this either. It almost seems a bit futuristic.
ReplyDeleteIt does look interesting--very modern. My cat thinks I should get up early too.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I kind of like it, but if it was permanent you know somebody would be climbing up them at all hours. Ha!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see the final result on that building. Today, my dog came in the bedroom barking at me at 9 AM. I am usually up by 8 AM and clearly he felt I'd slept enough. Our dogs make their requirements known!
ReplyDeleteWhat curious structural elements! Keep us posted, please.
ReplyDeleteDon't be too hard on Olga. You'll be old and set in your ways someday, too. 😉
That is substantial bracing, modelled on a Lego construction by the look of it.
ReplyDeleteI really like those big yellow braces and think they'd be nice as a permanent addition.
ReplyDeleteMitchell: I know! It looks like it COULD be a new modern building, but I'm sure it's not.
ReplyDeleteYP: I assume that's what's going on. I'm guessing it will all be removed when the reconstruction is done.
Boud: I don't think so. I think it's just temporary bracing. ("Temporary" may mean a number of years, though!)
Ms Moon: Clearly I needed a good lawyer to negotiate that same contract with Olga!
Marcia: I will keep you posted!
Ed: I usually go to bed around 10 p.m. Sometimes slightly earlier!
Ellen: They're very vivid, but at least they're interesting and not just plain iron girders.
Bob: Well, I suppose it's STILL architecture, even if only temporary. Welcome back! :)
Ellen D: Yes, I think that's it exactly.
Sharon: Certainly an interesting choice for bracing such old buildings!
Margaret: I guess animals get bored lying around. They want to go hunt in the mornings!
Bug: Oh, I hadn't even thought of that!
Susan: I'm surprised your dog waited until 9! Olga is up and at 'em at 6 a.m.
Kelly: I think I'm there already! LOL
Andrew: Ha! It IS kind of Lego-ish, with the color and the round spaces.
River: I like them too! I think they're artistic and interesting. Not sure I'd want them there forever, though.
Don't ask me why but it reminds me of the Pompidou!
