Street Work and Halloween
I came across these autumnal trees walking home from work yesterday. It's amazing how fast the leaves change. It seems that all we need are a few cold nights and suddenly we have autumn.
Remember that sign indicating our street would be closed for a few days beginning on the 14th? Well, this is what the closure looks like. I have no idea what's going on here, exactly, except that it's a Thames Water project and it's linked to that house on the right, which has recently been entirely gutted and basically rebuilt except for the outer shell. It's been a long, long renovation process and I guess they're getting a new water hookup, maybe?
Meanwhile, at work, our Halloween book display went up yesterday, with the help of some enterprising parent volunteers. (All I did is pull the books.) I like the witches' hats hanging from the ceiling!
Not to mention the big, hairy spider hanging off my desk!
It is a good sign in a school when parents join in!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I love having the parents' help with displays!
DeleteI love that spider, and the hats. I want to see inside the house that’s being renovated.
ReplyDeleteThe spider is a hit -- some kids pet it and some are scared of it.
DeleteThe fluffy spider looks rather cute
ReplyDeleteI think so too!
DeleteI think it would be great if the library staff had to dress up for Halloween. You could be Freddy Kruger but of course your boss would have no need for a special costume.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely not dressing up. My fancy dress days are behind me!
DeleteI was going to ask if you were going to dress up...as far as getting a handy man, we have one but the screen is my responsibility.
ReplyDeleteBut could you pay the handyman to do it? Or hire a different one? In my building in New York the super would sometimes help us out with home projects if we slipped him some money on the side!
DeleteSo the sign was real then. Someone went to a lot of trouble and expense over that house.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine how much they've spent. It's all but entirely rebuilt.
DeleteI'd pass on the spider but I love the floating witches' hats!
ReplyDeleteI do too! We've had those hats for years but this is the first time they've been hung up that way and I think it looks great.
DeleteWhoa! One house can get an entire road closed. I sure would like to see what they've done with the interior of the place.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wonder if they have to pay anything to close the road? (Aside from paying for the work itself, I mean.)
DeleteThey've been digging up roads all over Illinois - replacing old lead pipes. Maybe that what is going on...
ReplyDeleteI got interested in library work by being a parent volunteer at my kids' schools. I was encouraged to go back to school by the librarian at our middle school. I was so happy to work in libraries after I finished my studies.
I hope you wear a costume to school on Halloween. How about Where's Waldo? - that's an easy one!
I will probably dress as I always do -- as a librarian. :)
DeleteThat spider is the perfect accessory for your desk. I think you should leave it up year round!
ReplyDeleteIt might be a bit much for year-round display! LOL
DeleteThat big, hairy spider is a scary touch. I like the decorations.
ReplyDeleteThose trees have turned a beautiful color. They are looking good.
The fruit trees always change color first and the leaves are so bright.
DeleteI love those decorations! I'm more into the fall side of decorating like pumpkins and cornucopias. I did put out my Halloween light up houses though. Now I need the grandsons to come over to admire them! Looks like they're doing sewer lines?
ReplyDeleteSo more of a Thanksgiving decorator than a Halloween one, I guess! I imagine the construction is a new sewer or water hookup, though why they'd need to replace the old one is a mystery.
DeleteOh my, is Halloween almost here? BTW, I'd like to see those trees walking home from work.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice bit of sightseeing during my routine walk!
DeleteI love Halloween decorations! My older daughter gave me plush black widow once and it sits on the back of my reading chair year round. 🕷️
ReplyDeleteExcellent! I'd like one of those!
DeleteWe finished watching Bad Monkey last night, very satsifying. It's based on a book by Carl Hiassen, a writer I quite like. The bad guys always get what they deserve, which is satisfying for me. The photography really makes me want to go to the Florida Keys now, and Andros in the Bahamas.
ReplyDeleteOK, good to know! Dave is at a meeting tonight so maybe I'll try it!
DeleteYour Fall color is beautiful. Our air got crisp and cool quite suddenly. It is a bit of a shock to the system. We've got very little red with mostly gold and some light orange.
ReplyDeleteThe library looks well decorated for Halloween. The students must be excited.
Yeah, it's fun for them. I just have to keep the candy away from the books. :/
DeleteI love it! The giant spider, the witches hats and those cute little ghosts all strung together.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the ghosts are a great touch, aren't they?
