Parakeet Wave
Dave and I saw this parakeet on the feeder a few days ago and we were greatly amused by the way it's holding a chunk of suet ball in its claw. Every once in a while it lifted the chunk to its beak and nibbled. We'd never seen a parakeet eat this way.
It seemed so nonchalant, like a teenager eating a granola bar.
"Hello!" (Waves)
So who's surprised that Elon Musk and Donald Trump are now at each other's throats? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? I mean, we all saw this coming, the clash of two gigantic egos fueling childish pride. There's a theory that Elon is doing it purely to curry favor with liberals, so they'll start buying Teslas again -- which I suppose is possible. I don't know what made him throw in his hat with the MAGA crowd in the first place, because none of those people want an electric car. He's basically alienated his entire consumer base. I wouldn't drive a Tesla if he gave it to me free.
Regardless of motivation, there is something delicious about watching them throw hash at each other.
Meanwhile, in the interest of journalistic accuracy, I have a couple of minor updates on recent blog topics:
1. The central panel of the sidewalk mosaics I posted on Wednesday is in fact still there. I think it was just covered with a sign when I passed recently. (Here's what it looked like years ago.)
2. The woman with the pipe shown in yesterday's post is famous Spanish crime reporter Margarita Landi. If you Google her name and look at the associated images you'll see that she was almost always photographed with her pipe. (Special thanks to reader jonboi for identifying her!)
3. At the risk of beating this horse to death, I ventured into the Kravitz's back garden yesterday morning and closed their shed. I also spoke to the neighbor on the other side, who confirmed that they are overseas taking care of Mrs. K's parents. Apparently Mr. K comes back periodically, which is why I've seen him more than her. Supposedly they also have "guests" staying there sometimes. Mystery solved, at least for now!
Excellent detective skills shown in relation to "The Mystery of Mrs Kravitz's Disappearance". Margarita Landi would have been proud of you. In her honour, I think you should take up pipe smoking. Apart from anything else, it would give your outer demeanour more gravitas and thereby you would garner more respect - especially in the library.
ReplyDeleteThe fallout between Elon Musk and Donald Trump comes as no surprise—an expected clash of egos.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least is seems that Mrs Kravitz isn't under the patio!!
ReplyDeleteMusk/Trump - the latest entertainment in the media. I listened to Antony Scaramucci this morning he was on a high. Thank goodness green parakeets and nature brings the natural order of things into our lives.
ReplyDeleteParakeets offer much amusement. Except that where my sister lives (next to Heathrow Airport) they have become quite a nuisance.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Kravitz mystery is solved. Eating like that is quite common in parakeets, also the bigger version, the cockatoos, and the galahs, the corellas too.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the parakeet. I'm glad the mystery of the missing Mrs Kravitz has been solved.
ReplyDeleteJust been watching various pundits on the latest nonsense in US.
It's an SNL skit every single day. You cannot make this stuff up.
ReplyDeleteThat parakeet shot is amazing! And yes, it has been quite interesting watching the bromance blow up. Never a dull moment. I am glad that the Kravitz mystery has been solved.
ReplyDeleteI think Elon is absolutely correct... about the "Big Beautiful Bill!" I've never been too worried about Elon because like you said, this one was an obvious outcome. I'm actually only surprised that it lasted this long. Unlike you though, I think I would drive a Tesla car if it were given to me free. I wouldn't cross the line to drive the cyber truck though. Personally, I've never been a fan of the man. He is like a big hyperactive child on a playground that runs around making fast decisions with no concern towards the future, kind of like our sitting president.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Kravitz situation is now explained. But it's not as exciting as our true crimes version.
ReplyDeleteYour waving parakeet photo is a very nice capture. He is looking directly at the camera.
ReplyDeleteDT and EM on stage, firing shots at each other makes them both look bad. It's the DT/EM show, live from America. As the world simmers to a boil.
Hooray! The K's are OK! The shed is closed. All is well. Whew! (I wonder if Mrs. K would feel happy that so many people who have never met her have been concerned about her well being?). Love that series of parakeet photos. I've never seen a bird do that either, but it makes perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteDon't we all love a good food fight? Think "Animal House" or "The Great Race." Now it's the TACO and Elon show. Needless to say, the late night comics have had a field day with this one!
Wonderful captures of the parakeet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Kravtiz update.
Thank you for those photos of the parakeet. And your comparison of the bird eating the suet ball like a teenager eating a granola bar was perfect. A much needed sweet and silly visual.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that all is well in Kravitz Land. Phew. I was worried there for a minute.
Elon and Musk should go at it until there's nothing left but a pile of grease.
My sister and her husband drive Teslas - bought before the election and Musk's involvement with trump. My sister's is even red much to her chagrin. I gave her 2 bumper stickers which she uses on it - "Kamala 2024" and "Everyone is welcome here." She doesn't want anyone thinking she is a trumper. :)
ReplyDeleteRe Trump and Musk I'm only surprised it took this long what with everyone referring to Musk as president after the election.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for satisfying the curiosity of all your nosy readers about the mysterious disappearance of Mrs. K.
Glad to hear Mr. and Mrs. K are okay. Love the birds. Remind me of my stepdad's parrot, Pepper, stolen cage and all in the middle of the night in Panama.
ReplyDeleteThe Musk Trump thing took me by surprise. I thought they both had much to gain by working together. but I guess they can't do that.
ReplyDeleteMy gosh, those parakeet photos are simply amazing. I've never seen a bird eat like that. You got some fantastic photos of that interesting behavior.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to hear that Mr. & Mrs K are alive and well. Things like that make me worry too. I think I worry because I live alone and I would hope that someone would wonder where I was.
Yes, the Trump vs Musk screaming match was a given from the beginning. It was only a matter of time. Your "anyone, anyone" comment made me laugh out loud. My friends and I were saying something very similar last night when the topic came up. Someone sent me a clip of AOC saying "the girls are fighting" when asked about the conflict. That also made me laugh out loud. And someone else sent a meme with a photo of the back of a Tesla with a bumper sticker that said "I identify as a Subaru". Another good laugh. We have to laugh to relieve the anxiety.
Love the parakeet and I'm glad you solved the mystery of the missing Kravitzes.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to the bottom of the Kravitz mystery. I knew it had to have a reasonable explanation. Wonderful photos of the parakeet!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute parakeet! Now we can relax about the Kravitzes although I'm not relaxed about Elon at all. I've read in several places that this whole kerfuffle might be a distraction/sleight of hand to get Trump out and Vance in. Or pass the bill under our noses. There are unseen forces at work here behind the scenes, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny watching The Felon and Leon Tweet at one another like high school mean girls.
ReplyDeleteThat parakeet simply has manners.
Well, that’s a relieve about Mr. and Mrs. Kravitz. Maybe you can convince Mr. and Mrs. Russia to take a long journey (and NOT hire a house sitter). Thanks for the info on the woman with the pipe (thanks to jonboi). So glad the mosaic mystery is solved. I was losing sleep. That’s the way parakeets and parrots often eat. So dexterous.
ReplyDeleteI almost wanted to sign up for Twitter again to watch the mudslinging between the political toddlers play out. But I came to my senses in time. Lovely photos of the parakeet impersonating an adolescent.
ReplyDeleteThe comment I just made on the last post is now redundant. Mrs Kravitz is alive and well.
ReplyDeletemystery solved- a bit disappointing- not nearly enough drama but glad we all know now, Mrs. Kravitz lives!! Anyway, more drama is not really needed- following the big divorce of the wierdo toddlers.
ReplyDeleteWell...glad that you got to the bottom of the great mystery of the missing Ks. Now put your sleuthing skills to work and see if you can find out Mrs. Russia's malfunction is.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of the parakeet and description too. It's good that there is an innocent explanation for the Kravitz' absence.
