Unremarkable

The magnolias are just about done for the season. This one managed to push out one final flower before getting on with the business of making leaves.

Yesterday was unremarkable. I had a dentist's appointment on Tuesday, but that was also unremarkable (which is a good thing). I am feeling unremarkable so this will be an unremarkable blog post.

The only interesting thing I did yesterday was take my old computer to work in order to discard it. I asked a co-worker, a tech guy, to remove the hard drive -- which turned out to be a computer chip rather than the spinning disk I've seen in previous machines. I destroyed the chip and gave the empty shell of the computer to the tech office to recycle. I wanted to get rid of it while I still had a method for easy disposal.

My persistent cough has been bothering me again, which I'm not happy about. I've toyed with going back to the doctor but I'm going to let nature take its course for a little while and see what happens. Both my boss and a co-worker have been sick this week, and working as usual, which annoys the heck out of me. (GO HOME if you're sick! Don't give it to the rest of us!) Anyway, my cough doesn't (yet) seem like a passing illness -- it's more my usual chronic problem. I've been back on lansoprazole to control stomach acid so hopefully that will help it calm down.

Today is our final workday before Spring Break. Woo hoo! I'm off all next week, and when I return to work the following week, I'm only there three days before it's sayonara for good. Next week will be a foretaste of the life to come!

  1. Goodness! This has come really quick, hasn't it, your final days at work!
Oh, I so hate it when colleagues come to work spreading their germs and viruses around, especially since in my line of work, it is absolutely no problem to work from home. Do they want to flee from their unbearable home life, or do they want to be admired as martyrs?

    Happy Spring Break, Steve!

    1. I think people are just reluctant to admit they're sick enough to warrant staying home. Workaholics!

  2. My garden is covered with magnolia petals this morning, must have been a chilly and windy night.

  3. Are you feeling a bit nervous about your retirement?

    1. Not nervous, exactly. I am wondering how it will go and whether I'll feel restless. Time will tell.

  4. Well having read the blog highlighted I feel a touch miserable for you, having the same symptoms of coughing and probably for the same reason. But cheer up retirement will be a dream, you can swan round London taking photos and time will belong to you.

    1. It will help to be able to rest when I want to and go out when I want to, rather than having to go anywhere!

  5. Sadly the bloody squirrels nibbled every bud on our Magnolia tree, hopefully it will give more once leaves are formed. Enjoy your pre retirement break.

  6. Have you looked into allergy testing regarding your persistent cough? I have allergies and my most common symptom is a cough rather than the "watery eyes and runny nose" advertised on TV. Antihistamines help, but only the kind that make me sleepy, the ones for the "TV Symptoms" are useless for me. My allergies are heady scents, plants and perfumes, and mould right down to the musty beginning stage.
I still have my old laptop, she's such a pretty little machine I hate to let her go.

    1. I've had allergy tests in the past, but not since I came to the UK where the allergens are probably different. Might be worth a look.

  7. I could make some remarks about this blogpost that would be remarkable given the level of vulgarity that would be injected - including various remarkable expletives that have never entered your remarkable Floridian lugholes before. I applaud remarkable BBW and her lackey who have soldiered on like Vietnam war heroes... neither of them giving in to metaphorical bone spurs.

  8. I am so happy and excited for you! May you bloom like a magnolia!

  9. It hardly seems worthwhile returning to work for three days. It would have been so much tidier to finish at the end of term.
I hate it when people 'insist' on working when ill and spread their germs around. Anti-social!

    1. I agree. But I think ending on the 15th gets me into the new British tax year which has its advantages.

  10. Your last days are in sight.
I, too, am in an unremarkable mood today so we'll see how that pans out.

  11. You're right! You're getting "break-in" period! I hope you feel well, the cough eases and you can enjoy it to the max. Sometimes unremarkable is just perfect!

    1. Yeah, I'm not sure. River suggested that too. Maybe I'll ask about that.

  18. I love that sticker. It kind of matches my outfit today. Ha! Sorry about the cough - maybe you'll find out that it's a work-related cough and it will go away when you retire! (Probably not, but we can dream...)

    1. Yeah, probably not, though one of my coworkers says she sneezes a lot in our office!

  19. Solid state drives. I went through a similar experience last year when looking to add a drive to my computer but when I opened it up to see what the current ones looked like, it took me a beat to identify them because they don’t look like the spinning drives.

  20. I call it the London cough. I get it every time that I stay in London for longer than a month. Disappears the moment I come home to all of this extreme fresh air.

    1. Oh, well, that makes me feel better. I did have a cough in New York, too. Maybe it's just urban air!

  21. I feel as I have a cold coming on but it could be allergies maybe. I'm watching my grandsons today on a rainy day so we will be stuck inside.
Are you just relaxing during Spring break? No trips planned? Only 3 more days! I wonder what you will miss about your work...

    1. No trips for Spring Break. Dave really wanted to stay home. I'm not sure yet what I'll miss, aside from some of the people.

  24. I told my husband yesterday how much I love being retired and it's true. It was hard for the first six months though while my life and activities were rearranged. I'm especially thankful that I'm retired because of Jack. Me being home and not working makes life so much less stressful for all of us.

    1. It's possible. My co-workers and I have talked about having more coughing/sneezing episodes there.

  26. Spring break and then retirement. Sounds perfect. I'd spend my last couple of days at the library schmoozing and saying goodbye. No heavy lifting.
Hopefully your cough is seasonal and caused by all the new blooms/pollen. A bit of antihistamine might be helpful.

  27. My kids had an unexplained cough for a while when they were younger; we never figured out what it was. Possibly something environmental? Do you have any seasonal allergies? Retirement is coming up FAST!!

  29. What a cute little peacock sticker! My cough comes and goes and I blame it on the seasonal irritants (as opposed to allergens) in the air.

    1. Yeah, allergens are possible. I think it has something to do with post-nasal drip.
