Messages from Hackney Wick

I have little to impart in the way of news this morning, so here are some messages from the walls and sidewalks of Hackney Wick.

I've only been working full-time for three days and already I'm having trouble managing my time! I haven't figured out how I'm going to keep reading everyone's blogs and writing my own, much less do all the housework that needs to be done, much less keep up with The New Yorker and reading an occasional book. Welcome to the real world, right?!

When I worked in newspapers I could do a certain amount of Internet reading from my desk at work. I'm not sure that will be the case here. (And in all honesty I suppose I shouldn't be reading blogs at work, but when I was a reporter and editor I told myself that it was important to know what people were talking about!)

I guess Dave and I could stop wasting a half-hour on "Green Acres" every night, for one thing. But we do get a kick out of that...

Personally, I like the sunshine graffiti with the perfect "fuck you" added onto it.

And I do hope you're able to juggle all your desires! I'd miss your comments on my own blog AND your wonderful posts!

Just do the best you can...Green acres? Really?

It might take you a while to get a daily ritual and pattern down again. I can't imagine myself going back to full time work after not "working" for so many years.

I hope you're going to enjoy it!

You'll prioritize, and all that's good and necessary will find its way into your routine. You're part of my routine, you know, and I'd sure hate to miss the beauty you bring.

I love and adore the street messages. That last one mystifies me. Is that a pipe and a baggy? A credit card? Well, I understand the Green Acres thing. It's important to have at least a half an hour a day to let it all just go and that show was actually incredibly clever in a bizarre way. Kinda trippy, in fact.
Could y'all hire a cleaner to come in every week or every two weeks? That would make SO much difference. And is my own fantasy for myself.

Once again Ms. Moon & I are in alignment - I have a fantasy of being able to hire someone to clean my house. I don't enjoy it at all and I'm TERRIBLE at it.

I read blogs at work because that helps keep me sane. When I first started in this job there was SO MUCH down time I was losing my mind (not to blow my own horn, but I swear it took me less than half as much time to do what my predecessor did!). So I started reading blogs, and then after a while I started writing my own.

What a great post.

Don't give up Green Acres. It's the little things that bring joy.

If I worked in an office I would read blogs, definitely.

I would have a hard time with someone else cleaning my house. I love cleaning house and I'm very particular about it.

A cleaner once a week could work. Then all you really have to do is tidy up.

I love the signs.

But you know, when you took a break from blogging before, I was kind of flummoxed by how very much I missed you, so I know more that some of your newer readers what a void you would leave in the blogosphere.

Of course you will do what works for you and Dave. I say watch Green Acres; that half hour is sacred if you both enjoy it! Post photos when you can't summon the words.

Still, if you did take a blog break, I'd just wait faithfully like Olga does for you to return. Ha!

Elizabeth: I'll figure it out. I just need to get into a new routine!

E: I love Green Acres. Even as a kid I loved that show. As I told a friend yesterday, it is the perfect antidote to a day full of serious adult concerns, you know?

Lynne: I think that's exactly right. It's just a matter of time.

Nancy: Aww, thanks! I don't plan to go anywhere. :)

Ms Moon: I think "Mandy" is code for marijuana, and "Charlie" is code for cocaine. That's how I interpret that sticker. I can't see myself ever hiring a cleaner. I'm too much of a control freak about my house -- I like taking care of it my way, you know? (And fortunately Dave is fine with that!)

Bug: I may find a way to work blogs into my down time at work. So far there hasn't been much down time, though!

Reya: Yes, the little things! I wholeheartedly agree.

Angella: Well, I'm not quite to the point of wanting to stop or take a break, so I think I'll be around for a while! Thanks for the kind words. It's nice to feel appreciated. I love our little blog community because we all become part of each other's routines, which is pretty great! :)
