Cranberry Pants

I am usually a jeans-and-khakis kind of guy. I like colorful shirts, but when it comes to pants I play it pretty safe.

Recently, though, I've been seeing guys wearing a variety of salmon- or cranberry-colored pants that I really like. I mentioned to Dave weeks ago that I'd like to find a pair, but then I forgot about them.

Dave, however, remembered -- is that the sign of a good husband, or what? -- and for Christmas he ordered me a pair online. They arrived just before our trip to Florida.

Unfortunately, and through no fault of Dave's, they were kind of horrible. They were pleated, which would have been fine in 1989 but now is passé, and they were strangely shiny. They had a weird little coin pocket on the front. They looked like part of a marching-band uniform.

I tried to be open-minded when I took them out of the package, and I even tried them on. But both Dave and I gave them the thumbs-down.

So yesterday I packaged them up and returned them for a refund. I'm still on the lookout for the right pair of cranberry pants, but I'm thinking something a little more jeansy, more casual, and less marching-band. I'm trying to be adventurous, here. O gods of fashion, smile upon me!

May they smile widely on you. You would look great in cranberry pants, minus the pleats and shine. Fabulous.

Uh, I think we need pictures.

Pleated is 1989? My god man, plain-front is so 1979!

Cranberry plains-fronts? You are a little... uh... 'mature' to start dressing like the lead singer of The Killers.

If you get a bicycle with orange wheels I'm sending Rocco over there to break your kneecaps.

LOL at Mr. Dog - maybe you should start wearing knee guards just in case.

And I agree with Ms. Moon - pictures would be good :)

You should've braved at least one photo before you sent them back. You + shiny, cranberry Disco britches = me giggling and pointing like a 7th grader.

I so would have loved a photo -- the pleats is what made me laugh. Even the word "pleats" makes me laugh.

I'm thinking JCrew might have something you'd like -- or even Boden Men's.

I am trying to get a picture in my head of what these jeans looked like and I am failing. Yes, we did indeed need pictures! Bright colored jeans are really "in" right now so you should be able to find something suitable I should think.

Oh! Mr. Snazzy! Mr. Cranberry pants! Nice try- I think a cranberry shirt would do nicely with darker ordinary pants- but that is because I am SO conservative...

I got a pair recently from Uniqlo and I love them. Maybe you can find something there to make you smile.

Reya: Thanks for the vote of confidence! :)

Ms Moon: No way. These pants were horrible.

UtahDog: Yes, but flat-front has come back around to be stylish again. Pleats have not! I think I need to see and try on some examples so that I don't look like I'm trying too hard.

Bug: No pictures! Besides, it's too late. The pants are gone.

Nancy: They WERE disco britches. That is the perfect description.

Elizabeth: "Pleats" is kind of a silly word, isn't it? It makes me think of pleated skirts, or pleated window blinds.

Lynne: We shall see!

Linda Sue: I have a lot of bright shirts, though. I need something different.

Gary: Uniqlo! I didn't even think of them. I'll check out one of their London shops!

Yes, flat front is stylish again...

...if you are 9 years old.
