I'm seeing more and more changing leaves as I walk to work each day. I took the photo above on Sept. 29, and as you'll see in the following photos -- ordered chronologically over the following few days -- the colors seem to be getting progressively deeper. Not a surprise, I suppose.
Even with a spot of bird poop on them, they're beautiful!
Every year I wind up with way too many leaf pictures. But when I see a nice leaf on the sidewalk it seems a crime to not record it for posterity.
There are still plenty of trees that are mostly green -- all the ones in our back garden, for example -- so we're nowhere near "peak leaf" yet.
I love the fall leaf colours, the one you are holding is the prettiest. It's spring here, yet looking through my front window I can see a tree that is mostly orange and red.

DeleteI do think it works if you consider the process of letting go and allowing yourself to be moved by the vagaries of the wind. Life is uncertain. When we learn to go with it, life changes. You are a perfect example of that. After a devastating "letting go", in your grief you were swept up by the most glorious rush of life. That would never had happened had you not been able to let go.

ReplyDeleteIt's good that you capture the transient beauty of fallen autumn leaves. People take them for granted but each fallen leaf is can seem like an accidental work of art - especially when illuminated by sharp autumn sunshine.

ReplyDeleteI have always loved fall leaves too. Here in Virginia a few are starting to yellow, but we have a ways to go before the full color comes out. PS: I love the photo of Olga in the sidebar!
ReplyDeleteI love leaf pictures. I always look for the best ones to paint (I'd pick the one in your hand) -- something I do every year, remembering Vivian's blog and tutorials. We're starting to change here too, but it has been so dry, I'm not sure what the colors will be like. We'll see.

ReplyDeleteI love to see the leaves changing color. Have you read the book, "The Hidden Life of Trees: the illustrated version" by Peter Wohlleben? I found it fascinating and think you would like it, too. You won't look at trees the same way after you read it.

DeleteThe last photo is colorful but one wonders about what is going on with the photosynthesis process. Obviously a small part of the leaf is still active.

DeleteI never tire of leaf photos. (It's like me and photos of our pond. I'm sure others get tired of them.) Our peak doesn't come until mid-November, so let me enjoy yours along with you.
ReplyDeleteI love beautiful leaves, their shapes and colours, and have to stop myself from collecting them all as I find them on my walks. Actually, I have collected a few of different shapes and colours during our recent holiday and dried and pressed them in my diary while we were there. Now these leaves, together with three shiny conkers, adorn the top of the shoe cabinet in my tiny hallway.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I like your new sofa, and I really love the rug - it works in your living room because it is the boldest pattern and colour in the room. if you had a boldly patterned wallpaper, in combination I guess it would be too much.
