Here's another favorite piece of street art -- this one found on my weekend walk through Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's by the French stencil artist C215. I love the detail in this piece, and the remarkable way the artist depicts light on the face of the cat. Genius!
By the way, I found out a little more about Elbow-Toe's blue jay, for those of you who asked. It's a linocut, or a print made by carving into linoleum. The colors are stenciled on first, and the black details added last.
Every whisker on that cat looks real. It's such a striking piece because it's just a head. Sort of begs the question of where the body is. I can't figure out if you just walk in more interesting places than I do or you are more observant. Probably the latter, having walked with a certain photographer who sees all the interesting reflections I miss!

ReplyDeleteB: There's no question that Williamsburg, SoHo, Chelsea and a few other NYC neighborhoods have an unusually large amount of amazing street art. That being said, though, I've walked with Reya through DC and found some interesting sticker art there. So you never know where it will turn up!
