Back in Place

I’m blogging from my phone today because my computer has decided to completely die. I’m not sure what’s going on there. It worked fine yesterday when I got home from work and now it’s just showing me the red “recharge battery” symbol — and it’s been plugged in and charging all night. It won’t even turn on using the power cord. Argh!

I suppose I need to go buy a new computer. This one’s been around for a while. I think I got it in 2015.

Anyway, before that snafu, I was excited to report that our repainting project is DONE! Woo hoo! As you can see above, everything in the living room is back in place — including Dave. He and I worked a couple of hours after getting home from work to put our rooms in order.

And here’s the very blue bedroom. I like it! We have to re-hang the big picture on the left but that’s roughly where it goes. As you may have noticed, we moved the gigantic yucca from the living room to the bedroom because the ceiling there is higher. I’m a little afraid it’s going to fall on me in the night and put my eyes out. Wouldn’t THAT be a news story? “Man Loses Eyes While Sleeping.”

Please ignore the awful drapes — a problem still to be resolved.

Dave decided that he wants fewer tchotchkes sitting around, and despite all appearances I’m really not a tchotchke person either. So I’m going to box some of them up and stick them in a closet. As someone in the comments said a few days ago, painting provides a great opportunity to evaluate all your stuff — both ownership and placement.

And here's the Cranberry Crunch front door!

  1. Change the charger first, more likely the problem than the computer.

    1. Yes, I will do that. The cord is giving me a green light at the connection point so it seems to be connecting, but who knows.

  2. Snafu was the word that cost me a long run on Wordle a while ago. Definitely not English!
The blue was a good choice - looks good

  3. Oh yes. I like the blue too.
    Dave looks very comfortable there!

  4. The blue is a lovely shade...much nicer than the previous dark brown!
I had to look up Snafu and tchotchkes! ...though I sort of guessed tchotchkes!

  5. Good paint choices. Yes, painting is a good chance to sort out and assess!

  6. The painting looks wonderful. I love that blue and the cranberry crunch is a joy. Oh, Dave, looks wonderful, too. I love your place. We have lots of stuff still sitting around, but I do have a couple of boxes closeted with things to be recirculated at times. We think alike at times (sorry). When I was 19, I was on a plane that hit such surprising and awful turbulence we thought we were about to crash. My immediate thought was “Brooklyn Boy Drops from Sky Between London and Pisa.”

  7. I like the blue in the bedroom and the red front door. It will be interesting to see how the blue lights up when (if) morning sun streams into the room - which way does it face?

  8. The blue looks fantastic and that front door is just lush!!

  9. That blue is beautiful. The white offsets it nicely so it doesn't feel dark at all. Good job!

  10. In reality, the blue in the bedroom looks great. Because it is not covering all wall surfaces it is not overwhelming so Dave made a good choice there. By the way, as you are now a British citizen. you should call the "drapes" curtains like the rest of us.

  11. I like all of the colors, especially the blue in the bedroom. I don't know a ton about computers, but maybe it is time for another one? I got mine after I retired because my old laptop would make these awful noises and wouldn't hold a charge. I tried for a couple of weeks to see if I could do something to "fix" it, but after searching the internet for solutions, I decided to just go out and buy another one. It was my retirement gift to myself.

  12. WOW. These are fabulous. I especially love the blue bedroom (and the tree looks great there). Like how it was white at the top and it was a perfect "break" for them do do that. And your area rug in the living room looks really nice with the walls, harmonizing with the walls. That door rocks! Good choices, all. (And good luck with your computer.)

  13. It's good that the painting is done, and you like it, a plus. I'd change out a few cords etc before buying a new computer, just in case.

  14. I LOVE the blue in the bedroom! And your red door (does this mean you're Episcopalians now?).

  15. It's like you have a whole new home! Color abounds.
Now yes, go ahead and buy yourself a new laptop. Easy for me to say. But I'd say that eleven years of faithful, constant use is enough to ask from one laptop. Not unlike us, they do eventually wear out.

  16. Love the bedroom color! And a red door is always wonderful.
Thinning the tchotchke herd might prove therapeutic!

  17. The painting looks great! They did a lovely job. I sure do like your ceiling in your bedroom. So pretty. Glad you are happy with how it all turned out.

  18. Everything looks great. I love the blue in the bedroom and the red door is excellent.
Sorry about the computer. I was going to say that it sounds like the battery failed but it should still work when plugged in so it must be something else. I know it's a daunting task but you will love it when you get a new one.

  19. I love that door and love the bedroom colour. Painting is a good time to clean, rearrange, and decide what stays and what goes. I'm so glad that you kept Dave:)

  20. Dave wants fewer tchotchkes? does he mean all the stuff you pick up off the street and bring home? (That's a joke.)

I like the blue. The rest is good too. Dave's chair loks like it takes up the whole space.

  21. The ultimate evaluating of personal belongings has always happened with moves, but I suppose emptying a room for painting is a close second.

  22. Well, I like the blue, as well! Does Dave ever complain of neck pain? If he does, show him that picture of him in the recliner!

  23. I didn't think I would but I LOVE the bedroom color. What a vibrant and beautiful choice! Dave gets credit for that, right? The door is perfect too. I bet it feels great to have everything back in place.
