Golders Green

We just finished the third season of "Downton Abbey" on iTunes, and I think the show may have jumped the shark. I just don't think I can stand to watch all the mourning that's about to ensue. I may seriously be done with it. And that's all I'll say, in order to avoid spoiling the experience for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I took a walk through North London yesterday, from Belsize Park to Brent Cross, through Hampstead and Golders Green. Hampstead is a bit boring for photography, I think, being quite ritzy -- the high street is full of retail chain stores and just doesn't have much character. But other parts of the walk made up for it, and I got some good shots overall. I even accidentally found the former home of Evelyn Waugh -- it looked like a standard North London house, not something you'd expect the author of "Brideshead Revisited" to inhabit. (Where are the hot footmen?! Oh, wait, I'm thinking of "Downton Abbey" again.) The weather was really nice, with strong, bright sunshine.

February break has come to an end at school, so this morning Dave is back at work -- and I am too, fielding calls from teachers who are out. A week passes quickly!

As I expected, yesterday's salvaged bag of books yielded nothing I want to read. Which is probably just as well, so I'm not faced with the moral dilemma of whether to keep something for myself. I'll take the bag back to the thrift store today.

I'm often curious about the people who notice you photographing them. Has anyone ever confronted you, or have you been able to play it off fairly well? I'd be afraid of accidently snapping one of the Sopranos.

Was the chef leaving work or walking to?
Nice shot.
I have watched exactly one episode of Downton Abbey. Should I see a doctor about this?

I am totally not going to watch Downton Abbey - especially after seeing my friends cry about this season (which was, what - 4 episodes?).

I meant to mention yesterday how ironic I find it that I'm currently listening to a book by....John Grisham! Ha! It's actually pretty good - but then I like these kind of books :)

There's a fashion statement going on here but I'm not really sure what he's trying to say...hmmmm. I only heard about Downton Abbey through blogging...yes, I live in a cave and watch a lot of CNN after work. I've seen the show twice and just could not connect. Give me the old Masterpiece Theater Upstairs Downstairs...now that was a great show!

I hate when shows get so popular that all they seem to be able to do to keep ratings is tug at the heart strings. Unfortunately, Brits love it - just look at Eastenders and how long that has been running ha!

I'm with you on the Downton Abbey soap opera. I'm a little over it, now. My favorite sister gone and let's face it, Lady Maaaaaaary is insufferable when she's not mourning.

Playing catch-up here Steve!

So glad you have an amaryllis bud coming! My first bud has bloomed and gone; same plant now sent up another bud stalk which about to bloom. Second amaryllis plant has a bud stalk on the up and up and the oldest one still has yet to do anything. Who knows. They don't always bloom at the same time, so have faith.

Love the pink wall and the contemplative woman in your last post.

Downton Abbey: I may be the only one of your commenters that is still (or just simply) enjoying the show. Leave it to the Brits to put on a period piece so brilliantly. This is what Masterpiece Theater is all about. The sets. The clothes. The casting. Keeping it so real. Granted, we just finished the second season and are about to move on to the third. Maybe I will feel otherwise after the third season. TIme will tell.
