Crystal Meth and a Lost Camera

Last night, Dave and I had a couple of friends over to watch the final episode of "Breaking Bad." We get it via Netflix a day after it airs in the states. I thought it was a good episode, but like many other people I'm also glad the show is ending. It's important to bring a series to a halt before it gets silly or runs off the rails. (Ahem, "Downton Abbey.")

Dave made chili, as well as special gelatin vodka squares that he tinged blue to look like Heisenberg's crystal meth in the show. They tasted terrible but visually they were the perfect party accessory! I would have taken a photo, but...

...I managed to LEAVE MY CAMERA AT WORK yesterday. Yes, my beloved camera, the one I call "the baby," the one I am scared to let out of my sight. At lunch I took it into the faculty lounge intending to go for a photo walk after I ate, and I put it beneath my chair. Then I got engrossed in a book, decided not to walk, and went back to my desk without the camera. I didn't even realize it was missing until I closed up the library at 5 p.m. and saw that it wasn't beneath my desk. Fortunately I left it in a place where only my coworkers would find it, and someone gave it to security. It's now locked in the media office, and I have to retrieve it this morning.

All that would probably not have happened had I not also been preoccupied by a very strange encounter with a student over a computer charger. The student checked out a charger and a few minutes later returned an entirely different charger. It's a long story, and it's still unresolved, but it's funny how a single incident can affect your whole day.

It sounds like you were swirling in a minor eddy of chaos yesterday. I know the feeling! I've just gotten myself rightside up, now the damn government shut down.

Dave is so creative!

LOVE the pictures, LOVE the quotes. Olga is so cute.

In major transition myself, I continue to be fascinated by how different your life is from when I first met you, when you were navigating a similar transition. You are an inspiration!

A completely different charger?
Hmmm.
Sounds a little scammy to me.

Those quotes are wonderful.

I wonder if Hillary changing her hair could have averted the government shut-down? No?

So glad your camera is safe & sound!

Oh, no -- you left the baby! I would have been in a panic. So glad it's safe and sound with security. You don't want some student running off with it and bringing you a completely different camera! :)

Love the quotes!

OMFG! You left the baby! I have nightmares like that! My stomach is still churning from the terrible feeling of leaving camera behind! YIKES!
BB had to end that way- it was amazing, good old creative Walt! Downton Abby is more of a soap than a clever thought provoking run of good writing, acting, heart stopping action- it is compelling but quietly so.Apples and oranges, you know.
Sent the stamps, hope you get them OK.

I'm glad the baby is safe, and like any parent, you'll look it over once it's returned, count its fingers and toes, look in its ears and mouth... make sure it wasn't mistreated.

What book are you reading?

I know what you mean about a "favorite camera", with so many memories on them cameras sort of become part of our lives. Here is a little trick I learned that saves mine one time. I found this out while traveling to Canada with my son and my camera got left behind at a cafe. Luckily for me I had a tracer tag on it. A waiter where I ate lunch found it and entered my tracker number on the website and I was sent a text message (and an email) before I ever even knew it was missing. I was able to recover it before leaving Toronto. I'm not sure what would have happened had I not discovered it until the next day when I was 400 miles away. The tags are available through Mystufflostandfound.com. They saved my trip and I now have them on almost everything that goes with me on a trip.

Absolutely hate days like that but so glad you know where your baby is! A friend just returned from Africa and had all his camera equipment stolen...he had left it in his room. Mine would be tethered to me at all times. When I bring mine to the office, I hide it when I'm away from my desk...trust no one!...especially kids with computer equipment! The nerve!
