Balcony Jungle

Dave and I pass this apartment on our walk to work. Despite living high up in a building on Finchley Road, someone's taking their gardening seriously! When I zoom in on the balcony I can see impatiens, tomatoes, some kind of squash or cucumbers, and some other things too. That balcony does seem like an excellent place to grow sun-loving plants.

I bet those rooms (hexagonal, I think?) in the turret are interesting.

Dave and I sat out in the garden last night after work, having a glass of wine and talking about our day, and then walked around checking out the plants. We found this rose blooming way back in the shrubbery, on a bush that rarely gives us flowers. Even now, so late in the season, the garden offers unexpected gifts.

That is quite a garden for such a small balcony. And, I'm admiring that blue sky too. I love that rose you found hidden in the garden.

Quite a nice apartment block by its exterior. Sorting the world with a glass or two is one of my favourite things to do.

Second floor vegetable garden - great use of space.

Yes! A perfect setting for a wee, charming vegetable garden!

Smart gardening. A lot less likely to find slugs up that high. Last rose of summer is a nice gift.

That is a terrific garden up on that balcony! and I would love to see inside that tower. Interesting!
Glad you are enjoying every minute of your garden! It has sure been a good year for your blooms!

That balcony garden is so beautiful. What wonderful use of that sunshiny outside space.

That's quite a penthouse garden they've got going for them, and from the looks of it, a spectacularly green thumb.

Fall afternoons and evenings can be great times to sit outside.

I would love to see inside the turret in particular!

JINX! Pick-poke, you owe Mitchell a Coke!

I hope it's well fastened to the windowsill!

It was nice to have a blue sky for a change. We haven't seen many of those lately.

It's a nice looking building but it's not a great location. Finchley Road is very busy.

Steve Reed said...

Actually it's more like the fourth floor!

I admire their industry at planting out such a small space effectively.

That's true! It's a no-slug zone!

Pretty nice, isn't it?

Steve Reed said...

There's always something blooming, for sure!

Steve Reed said...

Yes -- it is a great sunny spot.

I didn't even think about the dearth of pests, but you and Mary are right!

Steve Reed said...

I wonder how much they harvest?

Steve Reed said...

Yeah, it's a good, temperate time of year.

Your rose is beautiful. I've found every season has its beauty, just not always in blooms. I've also found every season has its allergen!

What an interesting idea -- a patio garden. Your rose is gorgeous! Sitting in your garden and enjoying a glass of wine sounds wonderful! Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

One can never see too many flower photos, and yours are extra special!

I can't help but wonder how much extra weight is on that balcony from the pots of earth in which the plants are growing. (I'm remembering seeing a photo of a second-storey house deck that collapsed from the weight of a full Jacuzzi built on it!) Actually, the balcony looks pretty solid. But I still wonder. And the turret room - I'd love to see it too.

That balcony is amazing!
Just curious, since you do seem to spend a lot of time outdoors in your garden, do you not have mosquitoes there, or what do you use to overpower them?

That single rose is beautiful, and whoever has that flat is making excellent use of space as well as possibly reducing their food bill.

I am having the worst time with my sinuses this year. I don't know if it's allergies or mask-wearing or what.

Steve Reed said...

I guess if that's all the outdoor space you've got, you learn to use it!

Steve Reed said...

And above Finchley Road the air needs scrubbing, believe me.

Steve Reed said...

I couldn't get to it to smell it! It really is WAY back in the shrubbery, and yes, this year in particular I think it's in quite a bit of shade.

Steve Reed said...

She'll end up walking me, probably!

Steve Reed said...

I'm glad you feel that way. I probably post too many of them!

Steve Reed said...

Hmmmm...I hadn't even thought of that! Like you said, though, I think this building is pretty solid.

Steve Reed said...

We don't really have them, fortunately! There are biting insects in other parts of the UK but our garden is largely free of them.

Steve Reed said...

Yeah, I wonder what their harvest is like?
